Virus Protection

As computer use becomes more widespread, so does the rate of virus transmissions. Although nearly every computer virus can be detected using modern virus protection software, sometimes anti-virus software alone is not enough.

Q: What is a virus?
Torre: A virus is any program which can replicate itself and spread to other computers without the user's permission or knowledge. A virus can be spread many different ways, and the payload, or outcome of execution, is not always destructive. Some virii are content with simply replicating themselves. These virii are called worms. Worms usually do not directly harm a computer, but they can slow down a service (such as email) much like a traffic jam. Another program commonly confused with a virus is a trojan. A trojan, named after the legendary Trojan Horse, is a backdoor program which normally allows another user the ability to control the infected computer. A virus can also come in the form of a macro. Macros are prerecorded commands that perform a specific function. Macro virii are commonly spread through Microsoft Office documents. Microsoft Office has built-in macro virus protection. It is not 100% effective, so it is a good idea to keep your anti-virus software up to date!

Q: Why are virii so widespread these days?
Josh: A large percentage of computer users do not know what a virus is or how it spreads and they also usually use the same Operating System (Windows 95/98, etc.). Thus, it is easy for a virus writer to make a virus able to work on millions of computers.

Q: Can I get a virus from downloading files from a website?
Torre: When downloading files from the Internet, try to avoid sites you do not trust. If you are downloading from a large corporate site such as www.microsoft.com, chances of virus transmission are limited. When receiving files from personal websites, keep in mind that programs are usually not scanned routinely for the latest virii. Although the site in question may not intentionally spread a virus, the likelihood of infection is increased with smaller sites. So, when in doubt, try to download files from a trusted provider and avoid personal sites.

Q: What do I do when someone sends me a program through email?
Josh: Always be cautious when receiving files through email. Email trasmission is the means in which most modern virii are spread. Make sure you know and trust the person sending you the file before executing it. Even though you know the person, there is no assurance that the file does not contain a virus; the person may have unknowingly sent you a virus or the person might be infected with a virus which sent itself to everyone in their email list. Second, if you are not expecting the file and do not know what it is, be very cautious. If you are ever uncertain about a file, scan it with a virus scanner first, before you run it.

Q: What about virus transmission through removable media (floppy disks, Zip disks, etc)?
Torre: Floppy disks and other forms of removable media greatly increase the chances of accidental infection. Unlike most virii where infection occurs upon execution of the file, floppy disk virii can be spread through more covert methods. On every floppy disk there is a physical portion of the disk which is allocated for system use. When a floppy disk is accessed, even to simply inspect its contents or when using it to boot your computer, a virus can be unleashed. Always ensure that your virus definition files are up to date and be cautious of personal disks. If the disk is provided by a manufactuer, make sure the write protection tab has not been removed because a virus cannot attach itself to a disk if it cannot write to it.

Q: What if someone sends me a file in an online chat room?
Josh: Internet chat rooms are another means in which many virii and trojans spread. You should be very cautious when you are in a chat room and use the same precautions as you would with email.

Q: What do I do if I suspect I have a virus?
Josh: First, get the latest virus definition files for your virus scanner. Next, run your virus scanner and see if it detects a virus. If it does find one, have the virus scanner remove and try to clean any files that are infected with the virus. Sometimes virus scanners are not able to clean files that are infected with certain malacious virii, resulting in a loss of data. Although most can be removed from your system, there are still many that cannot and your data may be corrupted. If this were to occur, it would require you to completely re-install your operating system and software. Thus, it is always a good idea to keep a backup of all important files.

 

Virus Season Is Here

I want you to know I did my homework for this column: I contracted a virus. No, not a computer virus. The other kind--that little bit of free-floating DNA that invades your cells, takes over the machinery, and replicates itself. (I wanted my reporting to be authentic.)

A computer virus is similar: a renegade bit of computer code that invades computers and typically replicates itself by sending itself to every person in your e-mail address book. The difference, of course, is that the latter kind is the product of malicious intent.

Many of you dear readers now have first-hand knowledge of viruses of the computer kind, thanks to the most virulent outbreak ever that occurred in September. The culprit was "W32/Swen.A". The unlucky victims, which was just about everyone, received a very official-looking e-mail message that purported to be from Microsoft about a security patch. Attached was an executable file. Clicking on that brought disaster.

Which brings us to lesson #1. NEVER click on an attached file unless you personally know the sender and are expecting the file.

Good old "W32/Swen.A" spread like wildfire. I must have received it well over a hundred times. I'm still receiving it today. It not only sent itself to everyone in the address book but also scanned the hard drive for e-mail addresses. It also attempted to turn off any security measures on the infected system.

Microsoft hastened to remind users that while it does indeed send out security messages on occasion, it would never send out an attached file. You might want to check this helpful page on Microsoft's site that explains how you can tell if a Microsoft security-related message is genuine.

Also available on Microsoft's site is a helpful page on security and privacy that includes a guide on how you can make sure your PC is protected.

Lesson #2 is that you must protect yourself. It's not enough to be careful about opening attachments. You really need to have some sort of virus protection software on your computer and to update it regularly.

For one thing, not all viruses arrive via e-mail. The recent "Blaster" virus that spread around the Internet in August did so by accessing computers directly via the network. Actually, properly speaking this wasn't a virus but a worm, which, unlike a virus doesn't infect other programs, but simply sends copies of itself to other computers on a network, such as the Internet.

Two of the more widely used commercial antivirus programs are made available by McAfee and Symantec. There are also some freeware solutions. A version of AVG antivirus software is free for personal use and has gotten some good reviews. Avast is also free for home users for noncommercial use.

To get an overview of virus software, a good place to start is our old friend About. The Antivirus Software section gives information about the latest outbreaks, has links to free and commercial antivirus products for a variety of platforms, and even includes information about virus hoaxes and myths. Also, a good site for tracking the latest infestations is the Internet security center operated by Carnegie Mellon University.

Unfortunately, viruses and worms aren't the only thing you need to worry about. If you have a direct connection to the Internet such as DSL or cable modem, you need to also be concerned about people breaking into your computer. The solution is a firewall.

So what antivirus software do I use? Ah, well, um . . .

Your computer geek uses no antivirus software. I actually have Norton Antivirus installed but haven't kept it up to date since my annual subscription expired and I had trouble with the company's web site when I was trying to renew it.

I've got to get that taken care of. Meanwhile, my e-mail provider (Lisco) uses Postini, which is quite effective in blocking e-mail borne viruses. And my University has solid firewall protection for the campus network.

In addition, I use a Macintosh. The latest version of the Mac operating system is fairly immune to viruses, in part because it's based on the Unix operating system, which is more secure.

Unlike Windows Mac OS X comes with its ports shut and locked; it asks for a password if a program tries to install itself; it has a core OS that not even an administrator can alter; etc., etc.

Now if my body were so immune . . . . Achoo!

 

How To Avoid Computer Viruses

I think it's great that Macs enjoy "virus protections" that the PC doesn't. But if you think you're 'safe' because you're trusting the computer, consider the fact that the vast majority of PC users aren't on Macs, so hackers don't bother to write viruses for them. Knowing that, you still must understand that viruses get triggered not because the computer is a PC but because the user isn't paying attention.

Don't blame PCs, blame users. As long as users continue to allow their email programs to automatically launch files, idiocy like the Sobig virus will continue. This was the fifth version of this virus and they keep getting nastier than their predecessors.

It takes simple common sense and a lot of meticulousness to keep from launching viruses but it's not hard. Here's a list of the precautions I take to avoid computer viruses.

1. Don't download anything from anyone you don't know or aren't expecting... EVER. For all you VAs, and publishers and whoever else out there is trading files back and forth with your clients... Stop and make sure that your client has a safe system before you start trading files with them. It's worth the time.

2. Turn off the autolaunch in your email client. I don't even auto-launch graphics. Furthermore, READ YOUR EMAIL ONLINE! Don't download the email until you're 100% sure it is safe. Use Netscape, use Yahoo, use Eudora, use Simplecheck; I'm sure there are others.

3. If your email has an attachment, go into your headers and look at it. If it's got a pif or scr extension, chances are it's a virus. If it's any Microsoft program file, and you aren't expecting it, it in itself probably isn't a virus, but it could very easily have a virus embedded in it. The only things that hacker's haven't been able to embed viruses into, to my knowledge, are pictures. But just because it says it's a picture doesn't mean it is. Look at the attachment name. File names don't lie. If it's a .jpg.scr extension, it's a virus.

4. Antivirus protection programs are only ever as up to date as known viruses. They are also the first target of a virus, so don't trust the antivirus protection program alone. If you've used your eyes and don't believe it's a virus, scan it anyway. I use Yahoo, because they keep Norton up to date and I don't have to run it on my system. Norton in and of itself is a great antivirus protection program, but it's not infallible.

5. Set your computer so it doesn't autolaunch files, updates, security checks, html pages, cookies, etc. without your permission!

6. Get a quality anti-spyware program - They're designed to get rid of programs on your system that send your data to the web and as such could be opening holes that you don't know about.

7. Set up a software firewall. If you don't have a software firewall built in, upgrade your OS. And make sure everyone on your LAN is set up with the same firewall.

8. Don't rely only on the software; set up a hardware firewall. It's called a router and it's easy to set up and maintain.

9. Take the time and make the effort to understand how viruses and worms get onto your computer and you can virtually stop them all in their tracks.

10. Once you've got all your holes closed, get someone who knows what they're doing to test it from the Internet side. If you don't have someone, I can refer someone.

11. Don't let kids on the 'Net on your system! I find it funny that businesses will spend billions of dollars on marketing and advertising, but they leave their computer systems open to hackers whose sole purpose in life is to take advantage of KNOWN cracks in the system. In my opinion, the only real hole is the User. If you don't protect your system, nobody else will.

I probably sound a little cocky telling everyone my anti-virus procedures like this, but I'm not really. I have very sensitive data on my system I cannot afford to lose or to have sent out willy nilly to the Internet. So I'm cautious. I'm also smart enough to know that the second I let my guard down, something is going to find its way in and I won't be able to say "never" again. But I don't intend to let my guard down.

And if anyone out there is serious about doing everything you can to stop from getting a virus, but don't have the computer literacy to feel you can do it, email me and I'll find the time to help you put it all together.

The more people we can educate about stopping viruses, the fewer viruses we'll have to think about.

The recent volume of computer virus and worm attacks on computers all over the world and the impact this has had on the Wesleyan campus have raised everyone's awareness of the degree of disruption these attacks can cause. ITS is in the process of re-examining its virus protection strategies and the over-all security of the campus network. We are looking for better ways to keep all campus computers up-to-date with the most recent security patches and virus protection software. Email viruses have posed much less of a threat since the installation of our central email scanning program (Sophos), but we will be working on equally effective ways to prevent infection from new Internet worms that may arise.

The volume of network traffic generated by the most recent wave of virus activity overwhelmed some of our communications equipment and caused some instability in our networks. We were able to devise a way to quickly identify an infected computer and shut down its network connection until the machine was virus-free and patched to prevent re-infection. This has inconvenienced many, but has allowed us to gradually stamp out the spread of infection. We are still experiencing some instability in our dial-in modem pool and are using a similar strategy to deal with the problems there.

For users of computers running Windows NT, 2000, or XP, the link at the top of this page will enable you to clean your computer of any current viruses and install the most recent security patches.

There are certain things that ITS can do to protect your computer, but every computer user must also be educated to the risks of virus infection and the behaviors that invite viruses into your machine.

 

Computer Virus Protection

The Information Age is here! Search the world’s databases in a few seconds. So much knowledge at one’s fingertips… unprecedented in human history. Truly, the benefit to society is incalculable (though I'm sure some “think tank” has tried). But as any toddler who has read a fairy tale knows… with so much good, there has to be a dark side. Enter (use your best Darth Vader impression) the Cracker, the Hacker, the Virus Creator, the Bomber, and the importance of computer virus protection.

The Cracker is one who tries to “crack” codes to get into your computer to access your personal codes i.e. credit cards, etc. Profit motive is definitely involved here.

The Hacker is one whom wants to gain access to a system just to see if they can do it. They will “crack” computer security systems to do it but usually there is no profit motive. It's sport. “I broke into the Pentagon”. Fame, but no profit.

The Virus Creator is what the name implies. They create two types… the virus and the worm. A virus is a program that replicates and keeps replicating until your computer shuts down (read that as a crash). No profit motive, but pleasure at knowing that one created havoc.

A Worm grabs one’s email address book and replicates itself by sending the same infection to your friends. It then grabs their address book and does the same. Suddenly the planet is inundated with gazillions of infected emails, tying up servers and slowing down the web. Some worms create a “hole” that allows spammers to steal info (i.e. addresses), so there may a profit motive (depending on the worm) to create an address list for spammers.

The Bomber is the latest craze. A group of web-masters get together and mass their combined links to Google (or any search engine) with one phrase in mind. As a group they can actually change search engine results. For example go to google.com. In the search field type “French Military Victories”… click on “I Feel Lucky”. The result is a joke. No profit motive…just good old fun. Frankly, I’d rather they engage in Google Bombing than creating the next virus.

What can you do about computer virus protection? A few basics. Never ever, ever, ever open an attachment in your email that you were not expecting or from someone you do not know. If you follow the news, and hear about a current attack, include people you know (i.e. a virus has grabbed their address book and is sending the same virus to you).

Install anti-virus protection. We recommend Norton Anti-Virus 2004. Do not purchase the bundle that includes all sorts of additional software, as there are some compatibility problems with different operating systems. Just get Norton Anti-Virus. There is a feature called live-update that allows you to download the latest updates for whatever the most recent virus might be. That trait is good for 1 year, at which point you will be notified that you need to renew.

When you download the update, restart your computer, making sure that your computer sees the most recent update, then start a virus scan. Depending on how much info is on your computer, this can be a lengthy process. My virus scan takes one and a half hours.

Set the “options” so that Norton scans incoming and outgoing email. Go to Norton Antivirus. For the budget minded you can also purchase at Amazon.com. It will be cheaper. You can also purchase a previous year and still be eligible for the current updates.

We update twice a week to stay current, but bear in mind that updates can only be created after a new virus has emerged.

For additional computer virus protection, we also recommend Trendmicro.com. This is a shareware program that is constantly updated. It is free. It actually caught a worm that Norton missed. We run this program twice a month. (Use both Norton and TrendMicro.)

If that’s not enough, one must worry about “cookies”and spyware. As you surf the web, small, invisible identifiers are inserted into your computer. They transmit usage data back to whoever inserted the cookie or spyware. Spammers and hackers use them, so delete them. We recommend Adaware for this purpose. Another shareware product, it scans your computer and lists all cookies. You can then decide whether to “keep or delete”.

For Mac users the shareware info above is for PCs. This has to do with the fact that Macs rarely come into attack. Why? Probably because they don’t have as much of a market share as PCs and are not targeted. Still use Norton.

A note on firewalls. They are a good thing; they can restrict access to your computer from outside elements. However, do not put too much faith in them. If a hacker can get into the Pentagon what makes you think your firewall can stop him/her?

The key to computer virus protection is to constantly update your virus protection and run it regularly. Never open an attachment you weren’t expecting and check for cookies and spyware. Having done those three should let you rest better at night.

 

Even if you eat healthy food, it can be hard to digest if you make it unwelcome. If you’re rushed or stressed or preoccupied you can ruin even the most wonderful meal because your stomach will be in knots, denied the full attention of your muscles and circulatory system. So try to make the experience of eating a pleasurable and relaxed one, uncompromised by too many distractions. You need to indulge in your food.

Food That Aid Digestion

Apples
High in pectin, a soluble fiber that can help your body’s systems to function well.

Aloe Vera
A plant whose bitter juice, when heavily diluted, may ease all sorts of symptoms of Irritable Bowel Symptom and other digestive disorders.

Bananas
Another cheap, easily available fruit that can help soothe gastrointestinal ulcers, especially if the bananas are not overly ripe. Also high in fiber.

Celery
In raw or cooked form it’s high in fiber and aids digestion.

Prunes
These are actually dried plums, and in their whole or juice form have a profoundly laxative effect. Great for those with constipation.

Miso
Like other cultured foods, it stimulates the growth of friendly intestinal flora. And miso soup is so good for the soul!

Pumpkin
Very high in fiber. It’s sweet, therefore more kid-friendly than some other high-fiber vegetables.

Pears
Believe it or not, the fruit with the highest level of fiber.

Seaweed
Ocean vegetables such as agar, nori, and kelp all have important minerals and trace elements that can help maintain digestive function.

Tofu
Another cultured food product that keeps friendly flora thriving.

Yogurt
Milk cultured or fermented with bacteria that can soothe the gut and balance your intestinal ecology. It’s important to get plain yogurt. The flavored ones contain high levels of sugar, which can reverse the good effects of the micro flora. Just add your own fresh fruit, either whole or pureed, and it will be sweet enough.

Like raisins, prunes are rich in fiber and anthocyanidins. They’re great for preventing and relieving constipation. I like to drink prune juice as often as I can.

By keeping my fiber intake up, I not only avoid getting constipated but also reduce my risk of other digestive complaints. The fact is, as we get older, our digestive systems become a lot more temperamental. One reason is that the muscles lining our digestive tracts, especially our intestines, grow weaker. Another is that our stomachs slow their production of acid, which can cause stomach pain and impair the absorption of certain nutrients. Then there’s the whole issue of prescription drugs older folks are more likely to be using them, yet they’re known to take a serious toll on the gut.

If you want to ward off all manner of digestive ailments, my advice is to eat plenty of fiber, drink plenty of fluids, and get plenty of exercise. More than anything else, this trio of lifestyle strategies can keep your digestive system running efficiently and trouble-free.

It’s easy to say we’re going to do something, but how many of us actually follow through? Focus necessary if you want to become more successful. But it's not always easy to achieve. This article explains how you can stay on track to get what you truly want.

Have you ever had trouble staying focused? A lack of focus can best be described as a state of confusion, uncertainty, and impotency. When you aren't focused, you kind of drift aimlessly along, not really sure what you want to be doing, or how to do it even if you had a clue.

It's easy to set goals and form plans. It's easy to say we're going to do something, but how many of us actually follow through?

FOCUS is necessary if you want to become more successful at anything in life. What do I mean by focus? I mean being able to stay on track with your goals and the action steps that will help you achieve them.

In order to stay focused, you will need to be consistent with these 3 things:

1) Know where you are going

2) Know how to get there

3) Do whatever it takes to get there

Now do you see the importance of knowing what you want and forming a solid plan? Without those first two steps, staying focused would be nearly impossible.

The two biggest threats to your ability to focus are:

Distractions:

All of us have distractions in our lives. Whether they are external (other people, televisions, computer games, outside noises like sirens and traffic) or internal (negative thoughts, fear, confusion) - it is up to us to overcome them. Distractions can be aggravating for sure, but they can also serve as a convenient excuse to stop trying.

Do yourself a favor: be firm about minimizing distractions as you work on your goals. You may need to wear earplugs to shut out excessive noise, or have a talk with your family members and ask them to support you in your goals. You may need to decide to steadfastly ignore the critical voice in your head that utters messages of failure and doom. You may need to set a new schedule to allow yourself some quiet time each day.

Do whatever is necessary to take charge of your own success. Choose to become immune to distractions as much as possible. Remember, they become a problem ONLY when you allow them to take over.

Lack of commitment:

If you're not fully committed to your goal, you will find it much more difficult to stay focused. You'll be easily thrown off-track by self-sabotage, distractions and more. Without commitment, you simply won't put forth your best effort!

Right now, make a promise to yourself that you will do whatever is necessary to reach your goals. Vow to courageously face any challenges, take bigger risks, and believe in your ability to succeed.

Decide that no matter WHAT happens, you will keep moving forward, keep learning and growing and developing yourself as a person. Vow that you will develop and hone a laser-sharp focus that never deviates.

With that type of attitude, you will become unstoppable!

Not only is it secondary, in many cases her personality, ambitions and individuation seriously get in the way. For others the perfect lover is tough. She'll challenge, stimulate, perhaps even abuse. She's there to make him toe the line, perhaps reminiscent of his childhood experiences with a strict parent. As people wait and long for this perfect lover, they cannot see the person who is in front of them. That person becomes only someone to fill up time, until the perfect person appears on the scene. When people leave this kind of secondary relationship, they may not feel as though they're leaving, because they've never really been there in the first place. They've never had the chance to really know if this person could have been right for them or not. When a person is seen simply as an extension of one's identity, then seeking the perfect woman is really seeking perfection in oneself. A person who lives this way is skating on thin ice. Only a strong sense of self, based upon inner values and self respect will permit a person to create a solid relationship that will last through time and grow richer and fuller, rather than blow away in the wind. Hans continued, "I finally just got completely bored with it all. I don't know if it was age, or if I was just becoming more aware, but I never had a feeling of fulfillment, no matter how many women I had. Finally I met someone who was better for me. This was a completely different situation from my other relationships. Probably though, I had to change and grow, so I could meet and appreciate a person like my wife. Hans had to go through a period of emptiness, and depression as he realized the unreality of his search. An image brings only temporary pleasure. It can never bring fulfillment. In order to find real love, Hans started to work on himself, to meditate, take long walks, and find what was important in his life. As he did this, he was taking responsibility for making himself happy, finding his own core. As he felt better about himself, he felt better with others as well. Soon he began to appreciate the different women he met for who they truly were. From this vantage point it became easy to find a relationship that would truly nourish both of them. When we make someone else into an image, we are simultaneously doing the same to ourselves. An image can never bring happiness; only a real flesh and blood person who we respect and admire, can do that.

We all have times when negative thinking brings us down, when we feel like a victim. This article is for people who want to reclaim their sanity, and improve their quality of life. Make these steps part of who you are, practice them without fail and you will see your enjoyment soar!

Are you a victim of negative thinking? Do you find your self upset, feeling down or even depressed and you don't know why? Well consider this, our feelings, our emotions, and our results in life are all a mirror of our thoughts. To be more specific it is not just our thoughts but what we think about constantly that creates our reality. Whatever we think about is what we get more of in life. Now people would argue that they constantly think about what they "don't" want, rather than just how bad things are. Where they are correct in knowing that thinking about what is wrong will not make things better, what they miss is the idea that thinking about what you do not want will never bring you what you do want. For example: If you say "I don't want to be over weight anymore." That statement is still negative, the word don't is negative, as well as over weight that phrase tends to be more negative than positive don't you think? So saying something like "I want to have more health." Or "I want to have more muscle." Those statements are much more positive and can help get into a state where you can really make them happen. So I challenge you to learn and apply the next three steps, not only will your positive thinking increase, but your manic negative thinking will be a thing of the past.

1. Awareness

When it comes to self improvement learning to be aware is absolutely crucial. Why is awareness so important? Well, if we are not aware of the things that hold us back, that bring us down, what lock us up, then we are destined remain victims of their result. So take it upon your self to be aware, listen to your thoughts, monitor them. Start to watch out for negative beliefs, negative thinking, negative feelings, and negative actions. Look out for people, places or things that are negative, and make an effort to detach your self from them. Try to be conscience of the vocabulary you use, begin to rephrase anything words or statements that are negative and restate them as positive. Example: "I hate my job." Rephrase and say "I would love to find a new job." This is such a powerful skill to develop, the more you can be aware of your thinking the more design your life. So take this first step to heart and truly work on being aware. I believe we all have the right to choose how we want to feel, how we want to experience life, and being aware is a great place to start.

2. Responsibility

A large challenge we face in this day and age is that we all from time to time play the blame game, you know what I mean. When we blame how we feel on the weather, our job, our spouse, or the guy in the market that short changed us. We do that because it is easy, its easy to point the finger at someone else it takes the weight off of our shoulders. The sad part is that we do now own our feelings, we choose to blame our environment, yet we still feel bad, you think this is a clue? Of course it is, this shows us that passing the emotional buck never fixes the problem. Maybe it eases things in the moment but it is never a solution. If you asked a hundred people if they would like more happiness in their life I can almost guarantee that they would all say yes, but how many of them are willing say look at them self and say they are the main source of their unhappiness? Close to none, that is the defining factor between those who experience success on a constant basis and those who merely dream about it. So if all that is true than taking responsibility for your thoughts, your beliefs and your actions becomes huge. It shifts from everything being someone else's fault and you not being able to do anything about it, being powerless, to having total control because you know happiness is a choice and no matter what happens you can decide how you are going to perceive the information and what you are going to do about it. Now you are much more free, you are less of a victim. And that my friends is an incredible thought.

3. Commitment

Now make no mistake the final step is just as important as the others. You are now aware of your thoughts; you take full responsibility for them. The real mastery comes in the form of commitment. Now this is not short order, it takes some time and it takes some stick-to-it-ness. When we have a major history of negative thinking starting in on a new train of thought can be difficult, but trust me the value is much more valuable than the cost. All it takes are some new beliefs, some new distinctions and really owning them, they have to be powerful something to the effect of; the past doesn't equal the future, or all the power I need is within me now. Anything that will jolt your thinking into a new direction. Then when the going gets tough, weather the storm and keep your chin up. Hey listen, we all have bad days but we can drastically reduce the amount of bad days we have by making a total commitment to thinking positive and owning our thoughts. Got it? Now go out there and really live!

1. Washing your hair everyday – Unless you have oily hair, it is not necessary to wash your hair everyday. Breast lift

Breast lift is designed to improve breast ptosis (droop). This surgery may or may not be
performed with breast augmentation (placement or implant). It is also done to increase
volume and improve breast shape.

Reasons for undergoing a breast lift:
1. Some of the candidates have breasts that are
pendulous and for a satisfactory size.
2. Breast that lack substance or firmness
3. Nipples and areolas that point downwards,
especially if they are positioned below the breast crease.
4. Loss of elasticity, weight loss, pregnancy and
breast –feeding affect the shape and firmness of the breasts.

Breasts that are large and heavy can be lifted but the results may not
be as long lasting as when it is done on smaller breasts. A breast lift
can be performed at any age. But one has to wait until breast
development has stopped. Pregnancy and breast-feeding may have
significant effect on the breasts; surgery will not affect your ability
to breast-feed. This should be discussed with your surgeon.

Your personal consultation:

During your personal consultation on breast lift, you will be asked about your
desired breast shape and size. Your plastic surgeon will ask you how your nipples
and areolas will be repositioned. Mention any improvement
to be seen in your breast.

Evaluation by plastic surgeon:
Plastic surgeon will examine your breasts, takes measurements

Risks involved:

Modified breast lift:

This procedure uses a step known as Benelli breast lift. A popular form
of this is known for only an incision around the areola. Less scarring
comes with less correction of the breast’s shape. Benelli procedures
are frequently performed within the breast augmentation. But this
procedure is criticized because of the tendency to reduce projection of
the breast.

There are some realities which cannot be escaped. The aging breast
tissue may not allow lasting correction to overcome surgical
correction.

What can be done, and in a reasonable amount of time, to give your body a chance to function the way it was intended? Let’s face it, in this busy world we live in, we don’t get enough exercise, enough nutrition, or even practice any kind of stress management on any sort of schedule, and in some cases, not at all.

There are three main components to a healthy lifestyle, Eat right, Supplement, and Exercise. All three are essential to your body getting enough fuel to function and burn off the extra of what we don’t need. Here are a few tips to help get you started.

Diet

Eating healthily will also help you shift a few pounds if you’re overweight, and you’ll feel fantastic because your energy levels will soar. False highs from caffeine and sugar leave you feeling low afterwards. It’s easy to eat too much of the wrong foods because they are convenient and seemingly cheaper. A healthy balanced diet can be enjoyable, cheap and easy – you just have to try it and you’ll see and feel the difference. Following these tips will help you feel great all day:
• Aim for five portions of fruit and vegetables a day (try a variety)
• Eat what you enjoy, but in moderation (you need a combination of carbohydrates, protein and fat).
• Eat regularly but control your portion size (don’t pile up your plate, and stop eating when you’re full).
• Swap white rice, pasta and bread for the whole grain variety to increase your fibre intake and make you feel fuller.
• Keep an eye on how much salt is in your food (an adult should have no more than 6g per day).

• Eat fish instead of red meat (keep red meat to once or twice a week if possible).

Most of us, even with a healthy diet, still need to supplement our diets with added vitamins and nutrients. To start a new program, you should always talk to your doctor first, especially if you have any type of health condition but for most of us it is just about finding the time and getting to a routine. If you are a beginner, start off slower than you think you should. Three days per week is realistic, safe and effective. If you are experienced, do cardiovascular exercises such as walking, jogging and bicycling. Weight training should be done no more than three times per week targeting the same muscle groups. Exercise the same muscle groups on non-consecutive days because muscles need adequate time to recover and cannot be effectively trained if they are tired or sore. Flexibility is important, so make the time! Stretching can be done every day, but stick to a minimum of three times per week in order to reap the benefits. Of Course Porridge Oats Don't Make you Fat!

For years now, many weight loss experts, dietitians, doctors and slimming consultants alike have been telling us how Porridge Oats or easily the best option for our breakfast.

Granted most of us now know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, followed closely by our choice of post-workout nutrition, but why?

Well, you see, porridge oats are what are know as a Low Glycaemic Carbohydrate, meaning that it enters the bloodstream and is converted into sugar quite slowly, thus providing a slow release of energy throughout the day.

Hopefully you all know packaged breakfast cereals that are so common in many cupboards are just processed rubbish that I guarantee will make you fat- yes even Bran Flakes, All Bran and the like are very poor choices

Don't let the fact that they have 'added vitamins and minerals' fool you into thinking your morning bowl of cereal is healthy. It's not!

After being rendered into a kind of slurry paste, the grains that were used to make the flakes that you eat every morning were passed under high pressure and high heat through a pipe (a process that renders the grains mildly toxic) before being sprayed with synthetic chemicals and cut into their desired shapes. This process, known as extrusion, basically removes much of what was once nutritious from the food.

Haven't you ever wondered why your cornflakes turned to mush when you leave it too long? Real food doesn't do this!

So, what is THE best breakfast?

Well, believe it or not it's a plain old omelette! And before you game me the 'aren't eggs bad for your cholesterol?' line the amount of cholesterol in eggs had no effect on your blood cholesterol. They are a great from of protein.

Anyway, here's a study to back it up (you know I love my studies)

It's a study done by Dr. David Ludwig at Harvard University; he studied three groups of overweight individuals. Feeding each group a breakfast containing and IDENTICAL number of calories. One group ate instant oats; one group ate steel cut oats (the type that take 45 minutes to cook); and the third group had a veggie omelette and fruit.

They then ate a lunch identical to the meal they had eaten for breakfast, then after lunch they were told to eat whenever they were very hungry for the rest of the day. Now the results here blew me away!

Many of you would think that the healthiest meal would have been the oatmeal right? It was actually the omelette!

The group that are the instant oatmeal ate 81% more food in the afternoon than the group that had the omelette. Not only were they hungrier but the omelette group also had lower levels of insulin, which means there body was using fat as energy!

The steel cut oats were slightly better than the instant; the group still ate 51% more food the rest of the day than the group who ate the omelette.

The conclusion here for me is that the kind of calories and not the AMOUNT of calories you consume have a HUGE impact on how much weight you lose or gain, because different types of food are metabolized in different weighs- in short PROTEIN ALWAYS WINS!

Now I'm not an advocate of the Atkins diet which is little or no carbs but what I am a fan of is low REFINED carbohydrate, so eat your oats, your brown rice and your veggies but ALWAYS eat them with protein!

So go get those eggs for breakfast and watch those afernoon munchies dissapear!

Here then, is the most simple possible explanation of the power of your creative energy. Follow these four steps, and any goal can be yours.

STEP ONE: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

Yes, it seems so obvious, doesn't it?

You must know what you want in order to get what you want. Yet this most basic fist step is missed by the majority of people. You must know what you want as specifically as possible. This is the magic first step.

Daydreaming about your future will not bring you what you want. Waiting for life to work out the way you've always expected won't bring you what you want. The only way to get what you want is to decide, with clarity and focus, exactly what you want to create.

So how do you know what you want? Well, it's very simple. Write down your desires, your dreams, and everything that you want for your life. Then pick the one thing on your list that you know you could accomplish if you dedicated some energy to it. Pick that one and forget about the rest. Pick the very next goal in the creation of your live and go for it.

Focus, focus, focus. Don't waste your energy wishing and dreaming for a million and one things. Pick one and go with it. Just as the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, so does the journey to your ideal life begin with a single goal.

So begin with an easy, do-able goal, so far unaccomplished, plug it into this 4-step system. Write down as specifically and exactly what it is you will create. After it's finished, move on to the next goal.

STEP TWO: FOCUS ON WHAT YOU WANT

You must give positive focus, energy, and attention to your goal. Setting a goal and then forgetting about it will not do. You must imprint it on your conscious and subconscious mind until it becomes reality.

Remember, thought is blindingly fast compared to the manifestation of thoughts into reality. Of course, as you practice this system and become more confident, your thoughts will come into reality much more quickly. But as a beginner, you must keep your energy and intention directly on your goal.

You must focus on what you want, not on what you don't want. Stop complaining about things that are not the way you want them to be. Instead, decide how you would like them to be and focus on that. Whenever you find yourself giving attention to some area of your life with which you are unhappy, immediately ask yourself "What do I want in this situation?" and focus on the answer.

Take a look at your goal every day, give it positive focus and attention. Before you fall asleep and after you wake up, instead of worrying about your problems, imagine your goal successfully attained, and feel how you would feel if your goal was accomplished. Go to sleep with this feeling, and your subconscious mind will quickly find a way to bring it into your reality.

STEP THREE: TAKE ACTION NOW!

You must take action towards your goal, and you must take action right now! There is no other time that you can act. The past is gone, the future is an illusion. Making plans to take action is not action. You must take action right now

There is always something that you can do to propel you towards your goal. It doesn't matter how tiny the action is, or how insignificant you might feel it is, you must do it. There is always some small step you can take. Take that step.

You must convince your subconscious mind that you are serious about accomplishing your goal, and there is nothing more convincing than taking action.

No matter where you are along your path to your goal, no matter how near or far you might feel to be, there is always an obvious next step you can take. Take that step in this present moment. Right now.

If you have trouble figuring out what to do, or are paralyzed into inaction because it seems there are too many things to do, just do this: Make a list of all the things that need to happen in order for your goal to arrive. List all the intermediary steps that you will experience as your goal begins to enter your life.

Somewhere on this list will be the obvious next step. Do it. Do it now!

STEP FOUR: CHOOSE THE SAME THING EVERY DAY, AND NEVER GIVE UP

You must be consistent. You must, consistently, choose the same goal every day until your goal is accomplished. You cannot send out constantly changing vague wishes into the universe and expect to create results in the real world.

It's as simple as ordering a meal in a restaurant. You must decide what you want and then ask for it. If you can't make up your mind the waiter will simply serve someone else until you're ready. If you do not provide the universe with a specific goal which you consistently ake action toward, your "meal" will never come to you.

And the most important secret of all, DON’T GIVE UP UNTIL YOUR GOAL IS ACCOMPLISHED.

Are you eating your prescribed six bodybuilding meals a day and not gaining muscle?

Have you been blowing your hard-earned cash on body building supplements with techie names like "Nitric-this" and "Cell-Max-that", yet still fall short of getting the size gains you're after?

You're not alone. Thousands of muscle building enthusiasts are needlessly struggling – grunting and sweating for painfully little progress – and mislabeling themselves "hard-gainer".

Building muscle, like accomplishing anything, requires some rational thinking and a well-executed strategy. It doesn't just happen because you made it to the gym and finished your workout. It won't occur simply because you're using a product that was purportedly created by a "genius" wearing a lab coat. Successful natural muscle growth takes place as a result of adherence to laws of nature – just like success with any endeavor in life.

To back my point, let's look at what many muscle building aficionados counter-productively do in gyms around the world. This is a simplistic example, but some variation of this scenario is the cause for much unneeded frustration for too many natural bodybuilders.

Let's say Bill and Joe are training partners. They arrive at the gym to perform their much-anticipated biceps workout. Bill likes to start out with standing barbell curls and he's glad he has Joe there to spot him. Bill just knows that if he can get Joe to assist him with the heavy sets, some "forced reps" will really get his arms growing. He's decided to use the ever-popular ‘pyramid technique' to work his way up to those heavy sets.

Bill ends up doing six sets. His sets are as follows: 50 pounds/8 reps, 55 pounds/8 reps, 60 pounds/6 reps, 70 pounds/6 reps, 55 pounds/7 reps, 50 pounds/6 reps.

Bill feels proud of himself. It was a grueling biceps workout. His first three sets were moderately challenging. However, the 70 pounds he piled on the bar for his fourth set of 6 reps represented a respectable stretch for him.

Although he didn't ask for any help from Joe, he definitely had to dig deep within himself to find that extra pride-inducing push that allowed him to achieve the set of six reps. This fatigued his biceps enough to make the final three sets sufficiently challenging, even though they were performed with descending amounts of weight.

Five days later, Bill and Joe are back again for another biceps workout. Why? Because their schedule says it's time to work those muscles again. Of course, muscles only grow from recovery between workouts – not directly from the tissue-ravaging training sessions themselves. But Bill and Joe have apparently worked out some kind of deal with their biceps in which the muscles have agreed to recover and grow in a four to five day span (sarcasm).

Bill wants to get bigger, so he's decided to boost his heaviest set up to 75 pounds. He figures this will really "shock" his biceps into growth. His sets on this workout look like this: 50 pounds/8 reps, 55 pounds/8 reps, 65 pounds/6 reps, 75 pounds/6 reps, 55 pounds/6 reps, 50 pounds/5 reps.

Wow... Bill got a little assistance from Joe and managed to use five pounds more weight on his two heaviest sets. That extra intensity caused him to fall short a couple reps on his final, lighter sets. But that's okay, right? Bill is increasing the poundage and getting stronger and bigger, isn't he?

Hell no! ... Bill is deceiving himself. If you add up the total volume he moved in the approximate twenty minute time period during the first workout, it was 2,305 pounds. Five days later, he moved 2,260 pounds in the same time frame. His volume of lifted weight went down. Now he's counting on moving forward after having possibly over-trained in this most recent workout. Yet he's not even aware of what he's doing.
